Crawley, West Sussex census/records findings

Postby Nevis » Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:57 pm

I thought it would be nice to follow the named families in the 1881 census of the High Street in Crawley, West Sussex and see what they were all doing in other census's and records. It has become a most interesting journey into the past.
Among the many inhabitants listed below is one Walter Herbert Burgess B.A. He was the author of an autobiography of John Robinson, Pastor of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed to America on the 'Mayflower'.
I think a quote from the Pastor sums up very well the reason behind my interest in the people of Crawley, past and present.
Nevis. ;-)

"There is no creature so perfect in wisdom and knowledge but may learn something for time present and to come by times past."
..... Pastor John Robinson.
